At Live Oak Chiropractic we utilize chiropractic care as well as physiotherapy to achieve the best possible results for our patients. I have learned that each injury and each patient requires an individual approach. The chiropractic techniques and that I use in practice consist of Diversified treatment, Activator Method, Flexion and Distraction.
Diversified is considered the most effective chiropractic corrective technique and is differentiated from other techniques in that its objective is to restore proper movement and alignment of spine and joint dysfunction. Like many Chiropractic and Osteopathic spinal corrective techniques, Diversified is characterized by specific high-velocity, low-amplitude adjustment to correct misalignments and remove interference to the central nervous system.
The Activator Method chiropractic technique uses a spring-loaded, hand-held mechanical instrument called the Activator adjusting instrument. This instrument allows chiropractors to provide a quick, low-force impulse at specific points.
Flexion-distraction therapy is performed on a segmented table that moves as your chiropractor slowly manipulates your spine. The manipulations, combined with the movements of the table, stretch and decompress your spine, relieving your back, leg, neck, or arm pain.
The physiotherapy modalities that I believe are the most beneficial for our patients are Electric Stimulation, Ultrasound Therapy, Trigger Point Massage, Percussion Massage, Active Release Therapy, A-stim, Heat/Ice, Therapy Stretching and KT Taping.
The primary purpose of e-stim therapy is to simulate what happens in the body when you voluntarily contract and release a muscle many times in a row. This process strengthens and repairs tissue, particularly muscles which have become shortened, weakened, or atrophied due to injury or disease.
Ultrasound therapy heats and relaxes the muscles, breaks down scar tissue and increases local blood flow. All of this combines to increase healing rates in the area, making it a suitable way to speed up slow-healing or chronic issues
Trigger point therapy is a type of massage designed to trigger point pain in specific areas of the body. These points, also called knots, are usually located in muscle tissue and can cause pain when they become irritated or inflamed.
Active Release Techniques (ART) are a soft tissue method that focuses on relieving tissue tension via the removal of fibrosis/adhesions which can develop in tissues as a result of overload due to repetitive use. These disorders may lead to muscular weakness, numbness, aching, tingling and burning sensation.
Astym Therapy (more formally known as quick Soft Tissue Mobilization) is a type of physical therapy designed to restore tissues that have been damaged, weakened, or worn down due to injury or overuse. The treatment is designed to encourage the body's natural healing process without causing any additional harm.
Kinesiology refers to the study of movement. Kinesio tape, as it's often called, got its name because it is used to aid muscle movement. It's a thin, flexible tape that is meant to relieve pain, reduce swelling and inflammation, and provide support to joints and muscles.
